Talented All Black scrumhalf Cam Roigard is in the news for all the wrong reasons for a second time this year – ‘simulation’.
In short, he fakes an injury to get an opponent punished.
This past weekend, in the Springboks’ 29-24 Greatest Rivalry win over the All Blacks in Soweto, the No.9 dove after jumping on Bok counterpart Cobus Reinach, then clutching his head in the hope of having a penalty try, awarded to the Boks, but scratched by the match officials.
It earned him the ire of pundits around the world, most notably The Rugby Odds podcast panel, with former England, Kenya and United States Sevens coach Mike Friday the most vocal.
He called it schemozzle behaviour and pointed out it is not the first time Roigard did something like this.
The Kiwi Rugby Update show highlighted the fallout from Roigard’s ‘simulation’ in the Super Rugby Pacific semi-final between the Hurricanes (Roigard’s team) and the Blues.
His behaviour caused a major stir and verbal stouches amongst New Zealand fans.
